Honouring Our Roots: 45th Anniversary Commemorative Picnic

(Published with permission from River of Pride)

On July 1st, 1981, history was made in Moncton. Despite restrictive bylaws, over 100 brave members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community gathered for a picnic in Centennial Park. It was the very first public pride event in our city’s history—a courageous act of resilience that paved the way for the festival we know and love today.

45 years later, we are returning to where it all began to honour our pioneers and celebrate how far we’ve come. Check out the details!

When: July 31st, 2026 at 5:00 PM

Where: Centennial Park

Admission: Free!

Come enjoy incredible dance performances, live music, delicious food trucks, and our beer garden! It’s going to be a beautiful afternoon of community, history, and connection. Everyone is welcome!
