Home sales reach highest levels since last summer

New Brunswick home sales have posted their highest single-month total since last summer.

The New Brunswick Real Estate Board said a total of 930 units switched hands in April.

Chair Mike Power said that is the third-highest sales total on record for the month.

Home sales were 1.2 per cent above the five-year average and 15 per cent above the 10-year average.

Power said new listings also surged, which helped to prop up overall real estate inventory.

There were 1,390 new residential listings in April, which was 11 per cent above the five-year average but slightly below the 10-year average.

Active residential listings numbered 2,633 units on the market at the end of April.

While that was higher year-over-year, it was still well below average for this time of the year.

Meanwhile, the benchmark price for single-family homes was $305,100, a gain of nine per cent year over year.
