Hillcrest School To Undergo Sustainability Study

Public meetings are planned over the next few months, to determine whether or not students at Hillcrest School will be included in plans for a new West End school.

In May, the Anglophone East District Education Council voted to engage in a sustainability study for the school.

District Superintendent Gregg Ingersoll says the study includes a look at several aspects of the study, “We look at things like the building itself, what is its condition, what maintenance, what work will need to be done in the future, demographics, community use of the building, and is it a good move for the students and for the community itself.”

The first public meeting will be held on September 27, at Hillcrest School. The process will be explained and facts presented, and there will be an opportunity for questions to be asked.

Two more meetings will follow, both to be held in November. Ingersoll expects a decision will come from the DEC, by December. If it is determined that Hillcrest will be included, the new west end school isn’t expected to open for another four to five years.

This study came as a result of the DEC’s request to the provincial government this year for Bessborough School to be replaced with a new facility.

The staff of Anglophone East School District will gather and organize information for this presentation. There will be an opportunity to ask questions related to the presentation.
• November 1 – Presentations by public
The second public meeting will occur on Wednesday November 1st and will allow for interested individuals, stakeholders, and parties to present information to be considered in the decision-making process. This meeting will begin at 7:00PM and be held at Hillcrest School. A registration process for this meeting will be shared at the first meeting.
• November 21 – District Education Council Public Meeting
The third public meeting will occur on Tuesday, November 21st at Bernice MacNaugton High School in Moncton beginning at 7:00PM. At this time, the District Education Council will discuss the study and vote on a final recommendation. That recommendation will be one of two possibilities:
