Federal Health Minister Jane Philpott concedes it won’t happen overnight but a goal of hers is to see disparities between native and non-native populations disappear.
Philpott is appalled at the stories she has heard from First Nations people about the discrimination and stigmas they face when seeking healthcare.
She says other goals for natives are access to clean drinking water, nutritious food, better housing and high quality education, arguing there’s a need to spend money on education to raise a new generation of First Nations youth who will become the doctors, nurses and health leaders of tomorrow.
