Not everyone is excited about a potential resurgence of the shale gas industry in the Sussex area.
The leader of the New Brunswick Anti-Shale Gas Alliance finds conversations about shale gas and bringing Energy East back “absurd” without also talking about climate change.
Jim Emberger says every scientific body has been making dire predictions meaning we have 10 years to really reduce the amount of carbon emissions we are putting into the atmosphere.
“We can’t start any new carbon industries, we gotta slow down the ones we already have so to have this conversation with that as the background is totally absurd,” Emberger said.
Emberger says it sounds easy on paper to say it will be restricted to one area but the gas exists where it is and doesn’t move from riding to riding.
“The pollution, whether it’s water pollution or air pollution, doesn’t look at lines on a map. The water will go where the water goes and the air goes where the air goes. People who live in the Sussex area and don’t want it will still have to deal with it.” Emberger says.
