Halifax, Moncton land top 5 in Canada’s Rental Interest Report

Two Maritime cities have ranked in the top five in a national report on renter interest.

According to RentCafe, Halifax, Nova Scotia, landed in the number four spot in the Canada Renter Interest Report, where Moncton, New Brunswick nabbed the top spot.

This marks the third straight quarter Moncton took number one.

Renter interest in Halifax comes from Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada, Toronto and Montreal.

RentCafe says the Q1 Canada renter interest report highlights a “broader shift” in demand toward mid-sized cities.

To determine which markets attracted the most attention, millions of interactions were reviewed on the RentCafe.com during the first quarter of 2026.

There were four main indicators of renter activity:

  • available listings
  • listing views
  • apartments saved as favourites
  • saved personalized searches

The top 10 incude:

Moncton, Hamilton, Kingston, Halifax, Winnipeg, Victoria, Regina, Vancouver, Saskatoon and Windsor.
