Gruesome Discovery

Gruesome is the only way to described the horrific discovery of dead cats who basically fried in the heat on the west side near Ready Street with Saint John Police and the S-P-C-A now trying to find out who’s responsible so charges can be laid.

Melody McElman of Saint John S-P-C-A Animal Rescue says 14 cats were crammed into a medium sized dog kennel that was partially buried and wrapped in a garbage bag and an attempt was made to conceal the crate with bushes on top.

She says the cats that were young, many with collars, must have suffered for quite some time judging by the infestation of maggots.

Just one of the cats has survived because she was on the top but McElman tells us it will be a few days yet before it will be known if any of her internal organs were damaged from the ordeal.
