Green Party Wants Regulations For Pay Day Loans

Concerns about pay day loans and how they are creating a hardship for the working poor have made their way to the provincial legislature.

Provincial Green Party leader David Coon says there’s a lack of data available in New Brunswick but in Nova Scotia, the average pay day loan amounted to $433 but the total value of the short term loans in the province came to $89 million.

Coon says successive provincial governments have failed to bring in regulations on pay day loans that would protect the working poor.

Provincial Justice Minister Stephen Horseman says regulations are coming but he’s not saying when.
