Cats And Kittens At Greater Moncton SPCA Remain Under Quarantine

The Greater Moncton SPCA continues to keep its cats and kittens under quarantine after a large number of cases of upper respiratory infections..

On Friday, the SPCA stopped adoptions of cats and kittens for ten days to avoid the spread of the URI’s.

An update was provided on their Facebook page yesterday.

They are encouraging anyone who is looking to surrender their cat or kitten, to reach out to other local shelters in the area, as healthy felines that are brought in, could catch the illness.

Executive Director Dave Rogers says situations like this are not uncommon, “This is something that happens from time to time. It is not uncommon for rescues or shelters to have to close for short periods of time to get certain infectious diseases under control. This time of year for humans, sometimes they suffer from colds, cats are no different, they tend to have this happen to them as well.”

Vet bills to treat the illnesses are putting a strain on the shelter and they have set a goal of raising $5000 to assist.

Rogers says if you were thinking of adopting, there will be an opportunity at a later date, “If you wish to come out and fill out an application or fill one in online, we are still processing applications, but you won’t be able to come out and view the animals or handle them, until the quarantine is lifted.”

He adds they are still adopting dogs, rabbits and other animals at the shelter.
