Greater Moncton SPCA Continues To Monitor Dogs Running Loose In Central Moncton

The Greater Moncton SPCA has stepped up patrols in an area near the Moncton Hospital, after receiving complaints of dogs running loose.

Executive Director Dave Rogers says they’ve received calls of concerns about more than just one dog. They have reached out to the owners, to advise them of the by-laws.

“We always have a couple of extra Animal Control officers on the road at any given time, ” Rogers adds.

Rogers says one of the worries is that someone could get hurt, “Don’t approach the dog, give the Greater Moncton SPCA a call. But when we arrive, it may be 20 or 30 minutes later, and the dog may not be in the same location, so try and keep an eye on it, if you can. Don’t call the RCMP, because it is not something they would deal with of follow up with.”

In Greater Moncton, a dog is not able to run loose, unless their are in a fenced yard. If a dog is found running at large, the owner could be fined.

Canada Post had suspended mail service in this area, because it was believed the dogs could be a risk to the safety of their Mail Carreiers. There’s no word on whether or not delivery has resumed.
