Greater Moncton Brings In $100,000 In Coldest Night Of The Year Fundraiser

It was another successful fundraiser for Youth Impact, as 350 walkers came out to participate in the Coldest Night of the Year.

Youth Impact Associate Director Cathy Manuel says Moncton punched well above it’s weight class compared to other cities, raising over $100,000.

“There was 121 cities, and we were neck and neck with St. Catharines right up until the event when they beat us out, and they were 4th, and we were 5th,” says Manuel. “So we were pretty excited about that.”

Manuel says the money will be used in programs to assist Moncton’s homeless, hungry and hurting youth.

“There were young people at the event who, for them, it’s just amazing because they see how much our citizens want to help them move forward in their lives,” says Manuel.

She adds it’s just “so wonderful to see them participating alongside others that have, you know, raised thousands of dollars for them, and their future.”

Manuel says this fundraiser helps them support Moncton’s homeless, hungry, and hurting youth through drug intervention and transitional housing programs.

Overall, the Coldest Night of the Year raised $4.3 million dollars nationally, with Toronto claiming top spot at $171,478, Kitchener/Waterloo came in second with $157,504, Ottawa ranked third having raised $122,231, and St. Catharines edged Moncton having raised $107,068.
