GMCC Says NB Budget Has “Delayed The Inevitable”

Hard decisions are needed to balance the books again and the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce says the Gallant government has delayed the inevitable with another deficit budget.

Interim CEO John Wishart believes the business community is really concerned about the province’s growing net debt.

“I mean it’s going to be an estimated $14.5 billion this year. You know… it’s like you or I deciding to continue to max out or over max their credit card and think… well I’ll pay it off some day,” he notes.

Wishart says the Chamber is encouraged by spending in tourism with opportunities to expand that industry and to reduce the small business tax rate to 2.5 percent.

But he adds New Brunswick should follow Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island which have done a decent job in striking balanced budgets in recent years.
