GMCC Hopes Ottawa Changes Tune On Tax Changes

What are you doing to our business community?

That question is coming from the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce as it tries to understand the biggest federal tax change in more than a generation.

CEO Carol O’Reilly says by unveiling the proposal in mid-summer with a short consultation period, the Trudeau government didn’t seem open to comments.

“So what had been in place, had been there for 45 years. It worked well. Businesses knew what the process was and how it was going,” she noted.

Federal finance minister Bill Morneau recently entered a lion’s den when he met with members of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce but O’Reilly believes Ottawa may be open to making some changes.
