Georges L. Dumont Hospital Lowers ER Capacity

Vitalité Health Network informs the public that the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre has to reorganize its Emergency Department.

This situation is a result of a nursing shortage.

In order to reduce intake and maintain a high level of care, they will be reducing the number of stretchers from 17 to 10.

Patients are often placed on these stretchers for short periods while they are under observation or awaiting a hospital bed in one of the facility’s care units.

Network President and CEO Gilles Lanteigne says they are working on a long-term solution

They ask people whose condition does not require urgent care to make an appointment with their family doctor or to visit a walk-in clinic.
