Gallant Still Considering Future Steps

Emotional and historic moments in Fredericton on Friday as the Liberal government under Brian Gallant falls in a confidence vote.

The outgoing premier spoke with reporters outside Government House about the speech he delivered in the legislature.

“I’m not gonna take the credit for it, but obviously I think, as you all saw, it was a bit of an emotional speech that I was delivering, probably the hardest one I’ve ever had to deliver,” Gallant said. “It was nice to see the moment of humanity that I think we were all able to experience together as 49 MLAs.”

Gallant was asked about the conversation he had with Progressive Conservative leader Blaine Higgs following the final vote.

“It was very short and very courteous,” he said. “I simply said best of luck and I said anything I could to help him I’d be there. He thanked me for that and he was very courteous, as well.”

Gallant has not made any decisions about staying on as Liberal leader or opposition leader, saying he would take some time with his wife, Karine, to consider next steps.
