Premier Brian Gallant has been insisting a moratorium on shale gas development is not the same as an outright ban. Gallant says there will be a mechanism put in place soon that will gather all the relevant information and then his government will decide whether all the conditions have been met to move ahead with shale gas.
Gallant adds people around the province will be part of the process, giving their two cents on whether the conditions have been met, and if they haven’t how they might be in the future. He says if we can have an open and transparent discussion about this issue as a province, we’ll all be better for it.
He’s hoping the gathering of all the information will take no longer than a year to compile, if not sooner.
