The provincial government will not be adding a hotel levy after the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick asked for the idea to be considered.
Tourism, Heritage, and Culture Minister John Ames believes their existing investments, plus what is planned over the next 8 years will provide significant results without the need for a levy.
Hotel levies are a percentage of the hotel room rate added to the customer’s bill, which can later be used for promoting New Brunswick tourism.
The Gallant Government’s tourism strategy aims to boost visitor spending 57 per cent, from $1.3 billion in 2016 to $2 billion by 2025.
They claim that will add 4,800 jobs, and an extra $133 million in provincial tax revenue.
