Residents were able to ask questions at public presentations held yesterday at the Kay Crossman Community Centre.
MH Renaissance Inc President Dennis Cochrane says the plans addressed concerns from the Library Board about the design.
“So we completely redesigned the main floor, and built the new atrium out into the Quad, so they have all this open space with high ceilings, and so on,” says Cochrane. “If they have a technical concern from a library nature, we can accommodate that.”
This presentation helped clarify the details of the project.
“We’ve been working with the province, we’ve been working with the city, we’ve been working with architects, and engineers,” says Cochrane. “This was a chance really to say to the public this is what it looks like at this point. And trying to encourage them to be supportive, and give us input about what they like or don’t like.”
Cochrane says these plans are not final, and any input from the public can be incorporated into future changes.
However, he says the feedback so far has been excellent.
“People are quite impressed with the drawings, and the design, and the concept behind it, so that you run one part of the building as a private sector operation that generates profit, and that profit goes to a foundation that runs a centre for performing arts,” says Cochrane. “They like the concept.”

Cochrane adds the controversial decision to move the Moncton Library from its current home in the Blue Cross Building downtown is still under discussion by City Council.
He adds if Council decides not to move the library, it is not the end of the world.
