Fundraising Underway For Riverview Recreation Complex

The Town of Riverview has officially launched a $2 million community fundraising campaign to support the new Riverview Recreation Complex.

The $32.6 million complex will be built on the newly constructed Bridgedale Boulevard at Runneymeade Road.

Campaign spokesperson Lawrence Forbes says the 71,000 square foot facility has been eight years in the planning.

The complex will have an eight-lane 25-metre pool, a separate leisure pool, a fieldhouse with a walking track, multi-purpose rooms and connections to Mill Creek Nature Park.

Forbes one of the pools will be a replacement for an existing one.

“The pool at Riverview High School has pretty well reached the end of its life cycle. So that pool is going to be decommissioned and a new swimming pool will be built in the complex,” he noted.

Thanks to corporate donations, Forbes says the campaign has already reached half of its goal.

Despite COVID-19, he adds there has been lots of positive community interest.

While the Town of Riverview will contribute about $7 million, Forbes says funding is also being sought from the federal government ($13 million) and the provincial government (10.6 million).

Forbes expects construction will begin later this year with a plan to open the doors by late 2023.
