Fundraising Underway For N.B. Paramedic Monument

Plans are underway for a monument in Fredericton to honour New Brunswick paramedics who have died in the line of duty.

Crystal Hart-Drake is spearheading the effort and says she feels paramedics should get the recognition they deserve.

“I’m really passionate about the profession that I work,” says Hart-Drake. “I just love paramedicine and what it stands for and helping our communities and I just want to give back to my fellow paramedics.”

Hart-Drake, who has been a paramedic for 19 years, says they haven’t decided on a location for the monument just yet, but they have some ideas in mind.

“We do hope to be near the peace officers [memorial],” she says, “because that’s a provincial monument and ours will be a provincial monument as well.”

Hart-Drake says it’ll probably take a couple of years to get the monument in place as they first need to raise about $50,000.

She says they had to postpone a fundraising run this spring due to flooding, but they hope to hold it later this summer or in September.
