Funding For Memramcook Water System Expansion

More than $7 million in funding has been announced for the next phase of a water system expansion project in Memramcook.

Provincial, federal and municipal officials unveiled the funding during a virtual news conference Wednesday afternoon.

The water system expansion project will convert a test well into a production well in the new East Memramcook region. A booster station and a water storage tank will also be constructed as part of the work.

Once completed, the project is expected to increase water pressure and provide a secure water source for 175 more users.

“This third phase of our water system expansion project is an important step in making significant improvements for the greater well-being of our residents and we are truly grateful for this essential funding,” Mayor Michel Gaudet said in a news release.

“With this project, we can continue to move forward in improving our community while remaining focused on making needed services available to our residents.”

The federal government is investing more than $5 million, the province is contributing more than $2.7 million, and the village is kicking in $558,000.
