McCain And Sobey’s Help To Celebrate With Free Fries And Hash Browns

A donation to the Food Depot Alimentaire could get you a free bag of french fries and hash browns, thanks to a partnership with Sobeys and McCain Foods.

Monday, July 13th is National Fry Day.

Almost 7500 bags of fries and hash browns will be handed out at the Moncton Coliseum on July 13th, from noon until 4pm.

FDA Executive director Chantal Senecal says all you have to do is make a donation, and they will be matched by McCain.

They’re hoping to raise $60, 000.

Senecal says similar events raised large amounts of funds for other Canadian communities.

“They wanted to do one here, McCain being from New Brunswick, so they partnered with Sobeys and they are going to match the donations being given to the Food Depot Alimentaire for the free fry event,” she says.

Senecal says donations can be made online but that they will also be accepting cash and cheques on site.

Volunteers from the Moncton West and Riverview Rotary clubs will be handing out the frozen goods.

Senecal says, “All you have to do is pull up, and they will put the fries and hash browns in your trunk.”

David Good, Director of Agriculture, McCain Foods says, “It’s a difficult time for many Canadians as the pandemic strains our nation. With restaurants closed, or operating in a reduced capacity, demand for French fries had declined, making it tough for Canada’s potato growers. We know with restaurant and hospitality closures, Canadian potato growers were faced with a potato surplus, with many here in New Brunswick, the birthplace of McCain. “
