Police in New Brunswick’s capital are warning about a surge in phone scams and are asking for help to identify a suspect.
Fredericton police say multiple people have reported being contacted by scammers posing in various capacities.
The victim was told their bank account was locked due to a child pornography investigation and was asked to call a fake Apple or bank number
Scammers, posing as employees, demand large sums of money to “clear their name,” according to police.
Victims have reported losing several thousands of dollars to the scam.
In one recent case, the suspect arrived on foot at the victim’s address and picked up money.
The suspect is described as having dark hair and a dark beard and wearing a black sweater, black sweatpants and white shoes.
Investigators believe the scammers may be travelling throughout other parts of the province or elsewhere.
