A very full Ridgewood Veteran’s hospital to see 15 New Brunswick vets from the Second World War received a high honour from France.
Consul General Vincent Hommeril handing out the medals to the 15 men who arrived on Juno Beach in the summer of 1944.
He says it’s hard to imagine them facing German bullets and bombs liberating his country as he is from Normandy. He says it was moving for him to give them their reward.
Larry Lynch of the Royal Canadian Legion says since news of this ceremony came out, he has heard of other vets in the community who have since sent their paperwork to France.
He says another ceremony like this may take place in the future.
