Foul Smell Still A Concern In North End Moncton

A foul smell is an ongoing concern for many residents in Moncton’s North End.

Deputy Mayor Bryan Butler said he’s still hearing complaints and can sometimes smell the odour at his own home.

Butler told City Council that action is needed soon.

“Every week, the way the wind blows it goes from Pinehurst to the North End with the smell. People have been giving us lots of time to figure this out and get it fixed.”

Butler noted how the denial game is over since we know now the odour is coming from the Trans Aqua wastewater plant.

“It’s getting to the point now that it’s almost going to be fall again and then we are going to be waiting for next year. So we have to keep at this and make sure that the citizens know that we are on top of this.”

Elaine Aucoin, the city’s general manager of sustainable growth and development, said Trans Aqua submitted an action plan to the provincial Department of Environment at the end of June.

Butler asked city staff to keep pressing the province so residents can get some answers soon.
