A former resident of the United Kingdom has decided to run for Riverview Town Council in Ward 1 in the May municipal elections.
In a media release, Richard Blackstock says he grew up in the Greater London area of England and has lived in Riverview since 2011 with his wife Andra Phillips (who is from Riverview) and dog Poppy.
Blackstock says he was welcomed with open arms and now wants to repay that generosity back to the community.
“My wife and I chose to settle in Riverview for the friendly community, the proximity to nature and the great potential the region has to offer,” notes Blackstock.
He wants to focus on issues such as the closure of the causeway, community safety, economic development, responsible pet ownership and recreation for all ages.
He is actively involved in the community and was named Riverview Volunteer of the Year in 2012.
Blackstock works for the provincial Department of Justice and Public Safety as an acting regional supervisor of victim services.
