Former Moncton city councillor Brian Hicks will be honoured in the future.
Moncton City Council has decided to add his name to the city’s name bank.
Deputy mayor Bryan Butler put forward the proposal who said Hicks was a good friend and mentor.
“After council meetings we’d always go have a coffee or a chat. He always had the city at the front and it wasn’t about votes or anything else. He wanted to make sure that the city was looked after,” noted Butler.
“We didn’t always see eye to eye on everything. After council, we’d have some jarring back and forth. But he was willing to move on his point, if you could prove it.”
Butler added that his family fully supports the idea and were quite touched by it.
Since the City of Moncton already has a Hicks Avenue, his name could be added to a park or other municipal facility in the future.
Hicks was a councillor for 20 years and he also ran unsuccessfully for mayor against Dawn Arnold in 2016.
He died last November.
