Forest Fire Contained, DNR Asks Residents To Avoid Area

The Department of Natural Resources says a forest fire in Kent County, between the communities of Saint-Paul and Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, southwest of Bouctouche, has been classed as contained.

DNR spokesperson Nick Brown says equipment on scene today includes four tractors, one excavator and four municipal fire trucks.

Nine municipal firefighters are supporting 16 DNR staff members.

Brown says firefighters will continue to set up pumps in order to suppress the fire.

Traffic has been an issue and the DNR is asking residents to stay away from the area for safety reasons.

The fire was reported on Thursday afternoon near Route 515 and Pellerin Road and heavy smoke could be seen billowing throughout the region.

As a reminder, a burn ban is in place across all of New Brunswick until at least 2 p.m. Saturday when the forest fire index will be updated again.
