Another high profile federal cabinet minister and MP is set to step away from politics.
Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has scheduled a media conference for later today in Ottawa.
It’s expected Baird will resign as foreign affairs minister.
The 45 year-old will also not run again in his riding of Ottawa West-Nepean.
Baird has been a dependable colleague for Prime Minister Stephen Harper – and often referred to as the “bulldog” for his fiery exchanges in the House of Commons.
He was first elected in 2006.
