Food Depot Alimentaire Warehouse Needs To Expand

The President of Food Depot Alimentaire says they have run out of space at their warehouse in the Caledonia Industrial Park.

They’re asking for $400,000 from the federal and provincial governments to help pay for an expansion.

Dale Hicks says currently, they are spending additional money to store items, and have even turned some shipments away.

“We’ve got two or three trailers that we have to rent and put out in the yard and that’s costing money. So they are there for maybe a week and then we don’t need them. Then we call them back two weeks later and we need them back again. We’re turning away some shipments, we’re holding back shipments and we’re sort of juggling the balls the best way we can right now,” he says.

About a year ago, the FDA partnered with the New Brunswick Association of Food Banks and they are now distributing food to 60 food banks across the province.

If they can get funding in place within 30 days, Hicks would like to see the work begin this summer and be completed by the fall.
