Food Depot Alimentaire Marks 15th Anniversary

Food Depot Alimentaire is marking 15 years of serving communities and addressing food insecurity.

The organization saw an increase in clients when the pandemic lockdown began but things stabilized once government benefits such as CERB started.

Food Depot executive director Chantal Senecal says since 2012, the organization has noticed a jump in food bank usage by about 25 percent.

“The need has been great for a long time. Over 20,000 people rely on food banks every month in New Brunswick and we know that there are more people who are food insecure.”

Senecal says the root causes of food insecurity need to be addressed and her organization is collaborating with other groups to find answers.
