Food Depot Alimentaire Gets Surprise $42,000 Dollar Donation From Enterprise Rent-A-Car

The Food Depot Alimentaire is benefiting from a significant financial donation from the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation.

Enterprise’s Atlantic Canada Vice President Mike Bruce says they are thrilled to donate $7,000 a year for 6 years to help the Food Depot Alimentaire support those in need.

“We were founded by someone who believed that you lift your communities up by doing business with them and taking care of the residents, and that bleeds over to how we hire and train and develop our people today to be the same way with the communities in which we serve,” says Bruce.

Bruce says this money is coming from their yearly profits, and it goes into the Foundation to be redistributed to organizations in need.

The Executive Director of the Food Depot Alimentaire says this money will help them in many ways, especially with their capital campaign to raise $1 million.

Chantal Senecal says their next major project is installing a community teaching kitchen, and that comes with a price tag of $250,000 to $300,000.

She says they are looking for community, and industry partners to help them teach classes, and lessons in the kitchen.

“We’re also going to be doing preserving of foods, fresh foods, and teaching people how to preserve their food,” says Senecal. “And we’re also going to be teaching job skills so food safety, prep cook skills trying to get the restaurant industry to partner with us.”

Senecal expects if all goes according to plan, the teaching kitchen will be open in the early New Year.
