First Storm Of The New Year Hitting New Brunswick This Weekend

Things could get a little messy in the weather department this weekend with the first storm of the new year on its way to the province.

There are freezing rain warnings in effect for the Fredericton, Oromocto, Stanley and Woodstock areas.

Environment Canada meteorologist Jason Sheppard says snow is expected to start after midnight and persist into the morning. It will then change over to ice pellets and then freezing rain. By afternoon temperatures will rise above zero and the precipitation will change to rain.

Sheppard says we could get 10 to 15 millimetres of rain and 10 to possibly 15 centimetres of snow.
