Fire In Special Care Home On Lockhart Avenue

A fire early this morning has displaced around 10 people from a special care home on Lockhart Avenue.

Moncton Fire was called to the scene at around 1:15am

Platoon Chief Brian Gaudet says when they arrived, there was heavy fire coming from a window, but they were able to get things under control quickly, “We were very aggressive and got on top of this fire very quickly. As a result, we don’t have a lot of damage to the interior of the structure. We need to give a big compliment to our firefighters.”

Codiac Transpo and Red Cross were on scene, and assisted the adults residents with a place to stay, and ..will also be helping with clothing and other items.

Gaudet says there is smoke, fire and water damage to the inside of the home, but the structure is not expected to be a total loss.

There’s no word on what started the blaze. Investigators will be back on the scene this morning..
