Fire Displaces Apartment Building Residents

Moncton firefighters were called to an apartment building fire at 45 Grant Street, off McLaughlin Drive, early this morning.

Acting platoon chief Scott Brown said fire was visible from the 20-unit building when crews arrived around 5 a.m.

Brown said residents from several units had to be evacuated.

None of the residents were hurt but he noted one firefighter did suffer a minor injury which didn’t require hospital treatment.

Brown said two units had fire damage while six other units had water damage.

Investigators are on scene today trying to determine a cause.

The Red Cross said about 12 tenants have been displaced.

The agency was helping eight with emergency food and lodging while others have made arrangements with family or friends or through their tenant insurance.
