Fire Destroys Moving Truck Near Scoudouc

A 53 foot moving truck and all of its contents have been destroyed by fire.

Dieppe Fire Chief Marc Cormier says the driver was travelling eastbound on Highway 2 near the Scoudouc exit at around 5pm Sunday evening.

“The driver had observed smoke and flames coming from underneath his vehicle towards the back wheels. When he noticed, he pulled over right away and got out of his vehicle and then call 911,” Cormier adds.

Four fire departments responded to the scene, Dieppe, Moncton, Memramcook and Shediac with around 35 firefighters.

“There was nothing that was able to be saved. Everything was destroyed by fire or water. The items that were in the trailer had to be removed by heavy equipment. A local construction company had to be called in to help us to remove the debris from the trailer in order to get to the seed of the fire,” Cormier says.

A section of highway was closed and traffic was rerouted for over five hours.

Cormier says The truck was completely destroyed as well as the trailer, so the exact determination of a cause is not possible.”
