Fire Destroys House And Garage On Thorncastle Street

A garage and house on Thorncastle Street in the north end of the city are a total loss after a fire this morning.

Moncton firefighters got the call at around 4:30 this morning, with reports of smoke coming from a garage. Flames then spread to the house.

Platoon Chief Brian Gaudet says it’s difficult in this particular area, because they have to transport water to fight the fire.

He says , “Our biggest challenge up here is we don’t have a hydrant to hook up to so we have to shuttle water from our nearest hydrant which is down on Mountain Road. In this situation, we’re dependent on how fast we can shuttle water to the scene.”

There was one person home, but they managed to get out safely.

There’s no word on a cause yet.
