Fire Causes Extensive Damage To Duplex In Irishtown

Moncton firefighters, with the assistance of the Saint Antoine Fire department, worked quickly to extinguish a fire at a duplex on Scotch Settlement Road in Irishtown..

Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Brian Gaudet says it was initially called in at around 7:30 last night by a resident as a grease fire..”When we arrived, the fire had already spread throughout the kitchen and into the attic, and flames were also showing on the outside of the home. One side of the duplex is in fairly good condition, but in the occupancy where the fire originated, there is extensive damage. We pulled a lot of ceilings in that occupancy. There is a lot of smoke, fire and water damage.”

The Saint Antoine Fire Department assisted by shuttling water to the scene.

It took around ten minutes to get the fire out.

The Canadian Red Cross says one man was taken to hospital.

Ten residents, including three children have been left temporarily homeless. The Red Cross is assisting with emergency lodging, and other necessities for some of the victims..
