A local Financial Advisor says the recent announcement that will mean free tuition for low income students, is good news, but it only assists about a quarter of the students in the province.
Senior Advisor for Maisey Financial Services John Maisey says it’s more important than ever for students to start saving money now, “77 per cent of the household incomes in New Brunswick are over $60, 000, so these kids have now lost all of their tuition rebates and education just became probably 25 per cent more expensive for them. Excluding whole categories of students based on financial means is not the right approach. It’s a very shortsided approach.”
Maisey says many students are going to end up leaving the province, because they don’t qualify for the free tuition, and they no longer have any grants to help them pay for their education.
