Officials with Canada Soccer, the City of Moncton and the province of New Brunswick are trumpeting the economic benefits of this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cups.
Roughly 80,000 fans took in the soccer excitement at Moncton Stadium in June.
An economic impact study has found the province received almost $34 million while the City brought in more than $22 million.
Moncton mayor George LeBlanc says the FIFA event pushed the Hub City onto the world stage and continues to solidify Moncton’s position as the sports and entertainment capital of Atlantic Canada.
LeBlanc believes the success of FIFA should bode well for the Moncton-Dieppe bid to host the 2021 Francophonie Games.
