The Field of Dreams program in Moncton is more than just a game of baseball. It instills hope and excitement for the kids and the parents involved.
The program is for children with physical or cognitive disabilities.
Coordinator Charline Godin says some of these kids experience things, that they never have before, “Last year, there was one 16 year old, who had a party with fifteen kids. It’s not only at the field and playing baseball, it’s everything comes with it. We’ve created a little family.”
She says the game is a major confidence booster for the kids. Godin says some of them barely speak the first year, but by the second year, they’re running bases by themselves.
The Field of Dreams is located on Diamond 3 at the CN Sportsplex .and games are played on Monday nights…
Earlier this year, a partnership was announced between the The city of Moncton the Regional Development Corporation and the Greater Moncton Field of Dreams baseball program. Each are investing $167,000 to renovate diamond 3.
Godin says the program will be fundraising for their portion in hopes of upgrading the dugouts to make them accessible, putting bleachers in to make the first level accessible to wheelchairs and walkers, and they are also adding a parking lot specifically for the Field of Dreams baseball program.
