Fears Over How Bad Flooding Will Be

With the large amount of snow on the ground, there are fears of bad flooding when it starts melting.

River Watch will be monitoring the situation over the next several weeks.

There’s still a lot of uncertainty but Claude Cote of Environment Canada says the worst case scenario can be avoided if daytime temperatures get up to the double digits but go down to around freezing at night. That would result in a gradual, slow melt.

Cote says what you don’t want to see is a fast melt accompanied by rainfall which can be heavy in the spring.

The long range forecast is calling for colder than normal daytime temperatures through to the end of April.
