Fall Snowstorm To Hit NB

Our first true blast of a fall snowstorm will arrive this morning and students have their first snow day of the school year. .

Environment Canada Meteorologist Marshall Hawkins says it’s a tricky storm, “Because it is moving up in such a way that it is keeping the warm air just along the Fundy and moving it over the northern part of Nova Scoita. We are expecting heavy snow for the Moncton region this morning and it is going to mix with ice pellets later this afternoon and the easterly winds are going to increase as well.”

About 10 centimetres of snow mixed with ice pellets is expected this morning, and another 10 centimetres of the same for tonight.

“The fluffier snow is going to occur over the northern parts of the province and the then transition to the heavier stickier snow once you get down around the coast. Depending on the state of the trees there or things that could be affected by the weight of the snow, the closer you are to the Fundy Coast, the heavier the snow will be,” Hawkins says.

Winds will be gusting up to 70 kilometres an hour at times. Be prepared for whiteout and slippery conditions throughout the day.

“The good thing out of this one is it won’t be as windy as the last one, but it will definitely bring more snow,” Hawkins says.
