It’s already the end of September and the fall colours seem to be getting off to a slow start across Southern New Brunswick.
The question is why?
Weather Network meteorologist Doug Gilham says a number of factors are needed for ideal fall foliage including a summer with adequate rainfall and cool nights leading up to the start of autumn.
Gilham says it was a relatively dry and hot summer with warm nights until mid-September which will mean a late peak for the fall colours – likely mid-to-late October.
The colours usually peak around Thanksgiving weekend in Southern New Brunswick.
Gilham notes the brilliant hues of red, orange and gold may not be as vibrant this fall especially the reds.
