Classes are being dismissed early today in Southeast New Brunswick due to the extreme heat.
The Anglophone East School District made the call shortly before 9 a.m. and the Francophone South School District made an announcement about an hour later.
Anglophone East spokesperson Stephanie Patterson said it is going to be too hot today and due to COVID restrictions we are unable to use fans.
Anglophone East elementary schools will start dismissal at 12:15 p.m.
For the schools affected in the Francophone South School District, buses are scheduled to depart two hours earlier.
Francophone South spokesperson Marie-Michèle Vienneau said this is unusual but the closure is necessary given the heat and the ban on the use of fans during the pandemic which does not allow regular activities to take place.
Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for today and tomorrow with temperatures expected to climb into the 30s with a humidex reading near 40.
