Expect Road Closures Downtown With Legs For Literacy Marathon This Weekend

Thousands of runners are expected to descend on Moncton this weekend for the IGT Legs for Literacy marathon.

It is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, and since 2000, has grown into the largest annual running event in New Brunswick.

A family run/walk is scheduled for today, with a 5k, 10k, half marathon, full marathon, and team relay taking place Sunday.

The City of Moncton wishes to advise the motoring public of delays or detours in the following areas due to the IGT Legs for Literacy Marathon happening in the city this weekend.

Detours and Closures for Saturday, October 21, 2017:

From 6 a.m. until 2 p.m.:

  • Full street closure of Downing Street

From 9:30 a.m. until noon:

  • Full street closure of Assomption Boulevard from Main St. to Westmorland St

Detours and closures for Sunday, October 22, 2017:

From 6 am until 3:30 pm:

  • Full street closure of Main Street from Westmorland Street to Assomption Boulevard
  • Full street closure of Mechanic Street from Main Street to Assomption Boulevard
  • Full street closure of Downing Street

From 6 am until 11 am (re-opening the street following the last runner):

  • Full closure of all west-bound lanes on Assomption Boulevard from Main Street to Lutz Street (leaving controlled access to residents)
  • Full closure of Lutz Street from Assomption Boulevard to Main Street (leaving controlled access to residents)
  • Full closure of Record Street and Albert Street (leaving controlled access to residents)
  • Closure of one west-bound lane of Assomption Boulevard between Albert Street and Vaughan Harvey Boulevard
  • Full and Half marathon runners will be crossing at intersection of Assomption Boulevard and Vaughan Harvey Boulevard to access sidewalk and trail south of Assomption Boulevard.
  • Closure of one north-bound lane of Vaughan Harvey Boulevard from Assomption Boulevard to John Street
  • Full closure of all east-bound lanes on Main Street from Vaughan Harvey Boulevard to Lutz Street
  • Full closure of St George Street from Vaughan Harvey Boulevard to Highfield Street
  • Closure of one south-bound lane of Highfield Street from St George Street to Dufferin Street
  • Full closure of Dufferin Street from Highfield Street to Weldon Street (leaving controlled access to residents)
  • Full closure of Weldon Street from Dufferin Street to John Street (leaving controlled access to residents)
  • Full closure of Cameron Street from John Street to Park Street
  • Full closure of Park Street from Cameron Street to High Street (leaving controlled access to residents)
  • Full closure of High Street from Park Street to John Street (leaving controlled access to residents)
  • Closure of one east-bound lane of John Street from Weldon Street to Vaughan Harvey Boulevard (leaving controlled access to residents)
