Everyone is invited to a free, outdoor orchestral concert in downtown Moncton this evening from 6 to 10.
POPS NB is a program of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra, and Chief Operating Officer Don Matheson explains how this came about.
“Chief Executive Officer and President Ken MacLeod worked tirelessly to apply for and receive one of very few in the region very generous grants from Heritage Canada to support our Canada 150 program proposals,” says Matheson.
He says a Canada 150 song created by composer Howard Shore will be debuted.
“A renowned composer for his work on Lord of the Rings, and a multi Grammy and Oscar winning composer,” says Matheson. “Howard has been commissioned to compose an original work for which we’ll play the world premiere.”
Matheson says POPS NB will “bring together our Sistema Orchestras from around the province, our Moncton Youth Orchestra, the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra, and this year, as part of our Canada 150 POPS NB celebration we’ve also invited an exceptional Venezuelan orchestra to perform with us.”
Matheson says there will also be a performance from renowned soloist Measha Brueggergosman.
