Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Shaggy began his career in Brooklyn’s dancehall scene before serving four years in the U.S. Marines, including tours during Operation Desert Storm. He soon broke through with the global hit “Oh Carolina,” launching a career that has made him the only diamond-selling dancehall artist, with over 40 million albums sold, multiple Billboard chart hits, and a place among Spotify’s top-streamed reggae acts alongside Bob Marley and Sean Paul. His acclaimed collaborations include the Grammy-winning album 44/876 with Sting, as well as major releases like Wah Gwaan?! and Hot Shot 2020, plus viral success with “Banana” alongside Conkarah.
In recent years, Shaggy has continued to dominate globally with hits like “Go Down Deh” featuring Sean Paul and Spice, while also producing Spice’s Grammy-nominated album TEN. He has appeared in major moments like a Super Bowl commercial with Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, and as Space Bunny on The Masked Singer. Beyond music, he’s been recognized with honors from Brown University and continues his philanthropic work through the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation, raising millions for Jamaica’s Bustamante Children’s Hospital.
