Ernie Steeves Wins Third Term In Moncton Northwest

Ernie Steeves has been re-elected in his riding of Moncton Northwest. His victory was called early in the night.

The MLA Elect will be serving his third term and says he’s excited.

“As always it’s humbling. The people of Moncton Northwest put me in the position to represent the, and that is awesome and humbling at the same time. I’m thrilled.”

Steeves says he’s ready to take up the finance minister post again if the Premier chooses him.

“It’s awesome. I’m excited to get back in and take up my position as finance minister if that’s what, I mean that’s up to the premier of course. I enjoyed the job as finance minister and treasury board president. And I’m hoping that he decides that I will fit that bill again.”

He says campaigning has been different this year.

“It’s been completely different from the other two campaigns which we spent, 3 or 4 months maybe, going door to door. And this one was only 28 days. And of course, there was no door to door for us, so you’re just phoning people and you’re chatting and you’re trying to connect with people somehow.”

Steeves defeated Mark Black, who ran for the Liberals, Laura Sanderson of the Green Party, Shawn Soucoup of the People’s Alliance, and Cyprien Okana of the NDP.
