Enforcement Will Be Needed For Reduced Speed In School Zone

In lowering the speed limit from 70 km/h to 50 km/h in front of Magnetic Hill School, Transportation Minister Bill Fraser has decided to follow an independent engineering firm’s evaluation rather than engineers from his own department.

Fraser says the reduced speed zone will be in place when students return to school in January and enforcement will be needed.

“My department… I’ve asked them to reach out to the Department of Public Safety who will in turn reach out to the RCMP who is responsible for enforcing the speed limit,” he says.

Fraser is also pleased the district education council has followed the study’s recommendation and addressed congestion issues over the school’s parking lot and configuration of the parking area.
